Friday I challenged myself with trying to meet my neighbors.
Friday and Saturday were busy days and I found myself trying to get over to my neighbors house on Sunday.
I was tired and chilling with a little girl who chooses not to take naps anymore when this was on my mind.
I thought, "I could easily try to do this another day. Besides, how could I do this without being weird?"
But something happened.
Our power went out and we were left chilling.
Then I had the thought, hey, this would be a good time to go and meet the neighbors.
It wouldn't be weird to ask them about their power going out.
So I used this time to go over there and try to talk to our neighbors.
I went over there and knocked on a couple different doors (It's either a duplex or a tri-plex.)
No answer, looks like I will have to try again later.
Things don't always happen when we don't try for them.
Such is life.
We need to try to improve but sometimes it's not good enough.
Jesus calls for us to try to improve in Matthew 5 verse 20…
"For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven."
For the most part this would be hard to do.
Jesus is talking about being better then the best spiritual leaders at the time.
These people had the first five books of the Bible memorized.
They were very very knowledgeable in the scriptures and the laws.
But it wasn't knowledge that got you to heaven. It was faith in Jesus.
They fell very short in that area.
No matter how much head knowledge we have, how much we have lived a good life, how much we have tried to reach out to our neighbors, it's not good enough.
The video above I wanted to post with this.
Eric LaVallie had us watch this video at youth group.
No matter what we do, we are nothing without Jesus, but whatever we do wrong is covered by Jesus.
This still requires us to improve daily to be more like him, but when we fall short, he is there to cover us.
Jesus is the righteousness that we need to get to heaven.
It's a nice thing to have.
For those on spring break, have a great week.
Go State.
Have a great day everyone.
