Unwelcomed guest

There was once a man invited over to someone's house.

The family wanted to build a relationship and get to know this person and his family better.

So they schedule a night for his family to come and have dinner.

That night the guest arrived and when he got in the door said, "Man, I really hoped you guys would cancel because I had a long day and needed a break."

The family was surprised that this man would come over and that would be one of the first things out of his mouth.

Later they said he looked around there house with judgmental eyes.

They felt awful, as the night went on they felt like they were being judged and they didn't feel comfortable around these people.

They were glad when the houseguest left.

How would that make you feel if you were the family that invited them over?

The night got started on a bad note and didn't improve.

Sometimes it's the little things that rub the people the wrong way.

Jesus came across to Gadarenes when there were two demon possessed men.

He got the demons out of the men and sent them into a herd of pigs. The pigs stopped what they were doing, ran into the water and died.

Jesus just healed two men that were demon possessed.

The people were happy right?

Wrong.

Matthew 8:33-34…

"Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region."

He just healed two men and they kick him out.

Why would they do this?

Well it was a herd of pigs, the tenders just lost their income and way of life. Rather than being amazed they were ticked for they just lost their jobs.

They were worried about what else he would do to the people and their way of life, so they asked him to leave.

I couldn't imagine someone turning him away like that, yet it happened.

Sometimes we are welcomed, sometimes we are not.

Which is worse, having an unwelcomed guest that came over and took out your main source of income or someone who you invited to come over and felt like crap for the way they treated and judged you?

When it comes to Jesus we deserve to be treated like unwelcomed guest.

We do things wrong, we mess up all the time, we do things that hurt us and people around us even unintentionally.

We can claim his name and still mess up.

Yet with Jesus we never feel like unwelcomed guest.

He died for all the mistakes we make.

When we accept Jesus as the person who died on the cross and rose from the dead and recognize him and try to live for him, we will never be unwelcomed guest.

Even when we are far away from Jesus, when we come back to see him we are never treated as unwelcomed and he always wants us back.

What do you think?

Have a great day.
