There comes a time when you have to practice what you preach.
This can be in any area of life, whether at your job, your health, your family life your relationship with God.
Could you imagine how the people would respond on The Biggest Loser if the trainers were each between 200-300 pounds themselves?
Sure the trainers have all the knowledge to lose weight, but if they don't practice what they talk about.
People just won't take them seriously.
At times we all fall into this trap.
Here are some questions our friends (Not literally) generally say…
What's wrong with my marriage?
Why am I pregnant again?
Why can't I ever lose weight?
Why are my kids always misbehaving?
Why are all my friends' jerks?
Why have I been going to Church 15 years and I don't understand the Bible?
There are a ton of questions you might think about in your head.
If you are like me, we think and tell the answers just not to their face.
What's wrong with your marriage? You treat your spouse like crap and walk all over them then you wonder why there not happy.
Why are you pregnant again? You don't use any form of birth control.
Why can't you lose weight? Because every time I see you, you are eating fast food and your portion size is ridiculous.
Why are your kids misbehaving? You don't every discipline them so they do whatever they want, discipline your kids.
Why are your friends all jerks? You are a jerk and you treat your friends like dirt.
Why have I been going to Church 15 years and I don't understand the Bible? Well, I know where your Bible sits in your house and the only time it's opened is when you go to Church on Sunday.
We have all the answers but we can't apply this to our life?
We are weird.
We love to give advice that we don't even take ourselves.
Jesus talks about this in Matthew 7 verse 24-25…
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."
Jesus is giving a sermon that deals with a lot of different areas in life.
If people practice what Jesus preached, the world would be a better place.
It fell on people with deaf ears during that time and it does today.
Why do we like to give advice we don't practice?
Yesterday during our teaching time we talked about let your yes be yes and no be no.
You shouldn't have to say "I Swear" in order for people to listen to you.
It's the same with advice.
What we learn we can practice.
Do you think our life could change if we practiced what we say?
Would the world be a better place if everyone focused on improving some aspects of them rather then others?
What do you think?
Have a great day.
