Others paved the way

No matter where you are at in your life, others have paved the way.

Sometimes we get into the trap that we invented the wheel.

Union Christian Church has been here long, long, long before I ever got here and will be here long after I leave (That is the goal).

I don't want a Church that lives and dies with me and I do everything I can do to make sure that happens.

Part of where we go is learning where we come from.

There are different things that happened long before I got here that laid the foundation of the ministry of this Church and the youth ministry program.

What things have happened before you at your job that got things the way they are today or at your school?

I have to recognize and lift up the people that were here before me.

The same could be said about any job.

There is a major problem when people think that things begin and end with them.

I love working with Mark Grayless, he has been at Union Christian Church for 20 years.

The Church was here before he got here and this summer was a test to see how the Church would be after he left (Mark was on sabbatical for 3 months).

You can see how good a place is if things don't drop off when you leave.

Or they drop off drastically before you leave then improve almost immediately after you leave.

The world needs to revolve around one person and that one person is not us.

It's Jesus.

Yet even before Jesus got here, there was one that paved the way.

Jesus responds to his inner group of disciples when they asked why did the teachers of the law say Elijah must come first?"

Matthew 17:11-13…

"To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist."

Jesus did amazing, but there were still people that came before him to pave the way for his ministry, John the Baptist.

Without what John did, the ministry of Jesus would have been completely different in some ways.

Even after Jesus, the ministry went on.

Christianity is the number 1 religion in the world and it can all date back to what Jesus has done.

But the work of Jesus didn't stop with Jesus.

The same way could be said about our jobs.

A lot of them won't being and die with us.

Sometimes we are just a pawn in a chess game and we have to accept that.

We can still strive to be the best pawn we can be.

Even the pawn can make a difference just like each and everyone of us can make a difference.

We just have to remember the world won't begin and die with us.

What do you think?

Have a great day.
