In life sometimes there is a point when there is no return.
When you have to make a choice and you know there is no turning back.
There are movies that portray this.
In the Matrix, there was the blue and red pill, once you take it there is no going back.
Life is full of these choices.
You jump in with both feet not always sure where it's going to lead.
We make choices with where we go with life.
We make decisions to study for a test or not and either way we are faced with a test.
We deal with our own decisions.
There are other decisions we face like…
- what college to go to
- what branch of the military to serve in
- whether or not to ask a girl out
- to ask the question will you marry me
- to chose to have a baby
- to take out more student loans
- what are some other no turning back decisions?
With each decision there are consequences.
There are positive and negative reactions.
There are decisions you are stuck with.
It's no different with faith.
Jesus was watching people put in their offerings to the Lord in the Temple.
Rich people threw in lots of money.
People threw in a chunk of what they had.
Then a poor widow came up.
She walked over and dropped in two coins.
The coins were the lowest form of money in circulation at the time.
Maybe worth a day's wages.
Jesus saw this and told his disciples this in Mark 12:43-44…
"I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on."
No turning back.
This widow gave everything she had.
Jesus recognized this commitment.
She jumped in with both feet putting all of her trust in God.
When we put all of our trust in with God, he blesses that commitment.
The problem with faith is we don't like to do this.
Often we are stuck like the Rich Young Ruler, who was blameless except he couldn't give up his possessions sell them and follow Jesus.
I am no different.
The problem with this type of faith is we wonder why God never comes through for us.
We dip one foot in the water but aren't willing to jump in.
Maybe God's waiting to bless you until he sees you make that commitment to him.
How can you expect God to answers prayer when you aren't willing to make a deeper commitment to him?
Maybe this would require you to…
- make a commitment to live for Christ (ex. Get baptized).
- try to make time each day to read the Bible.
- Share your story of faith with your friends.
- Invite the neighbor you don't get along with over for dinner.
- What commitment do you need to make.
There are many different ways to make a better commitment.
Jesus is always looking for people who are willing to make a deeper commitment.
He blesses that.
What do you need to do today?
A poor widow put all of her trust in Christ.
Will you?
Have a great day.
