Name Game

Sometimes I am awful with names.

When in a new group of students that I really don't know, we start out with something like the name game.

This really helps me with names.

When you don't see people in a while you forget them.

Ever have a feeling where you know someone and can't think of their name and where you know them from?

This is one thing that will be interesting with going to my 10 year high school reunion is remembering names.

Will I remember names of some people I haven't seen in 10 years?

Or what if someone comes up to me and remembers my name but I can't think of theirs?

That would be weird.

Names are an interesting component.

Twice in the gospels they mention the genealogy of Jesus.

They look at where Jesus is coming from.

It looks like this in Luke 3:23…

Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,

son of Heli,
the son of Matthat,

the son of Levi, the son of Melki,

the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph.

While the names mentioned here we don't always know something about the people there is a good significance to this part.

They trace Jesus back through history to show he comes from the line of King David which shows his ability to take the thrown.

This is huge that they were able to do this for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Think about it this way….

Who is your great, great, great grandfather?

I once heard I was related to someone in the 30's who was a professional golfer and bowler.

If you are like me you haven't paid that close attention to where you came from.

Yet this has great significance on your life.

With the United States being a melting pot, the great majority of us came from some other country.

What if that person decided against coming?

What would happen to us?

Genealogy does play a role.

With Jesus they traced his line so people would know where he came from.

There would be no question that he was real and his line dated back to the fact he could have a shot at the throne.

While we might not remember these names or what they people did.

Jesus came from a line of people that date back to some important people in history.

It's not often you see that from religions.

Everyone has a specific name for a reason and a purpose.

While not all of us will become legacies, we can still make a difference no matter where we are at or what we are doing.

Imagine being along the genealogy of Jesus.

You being you and what you did eventually led to the kingship of Jesus.

Names play a role in Jesus, just like names and history can play a role today.

Spend time figuring out where you came from and thank those people.

You wouldn't be where you are at today without them.

Have a great day.
