True Life.
Do we share true life?
What's going on?
It's hard, because you have people that love you, care for you and you have people that don't in your lives.
It's really hard to wrap our mind around.
A long time ago I had a conversation with some people at an organization.
We got on the subject of being real.
We were talking about, "Are we the real people we say we are?"
Do people know the real us?
This one lady spoke up and said, "I can't stand fake people and being around them."
"Then how do you deal with Sunday morning Church?" I asked without really thinking. (Note to you, she was a Church attendee and I say a lot of things without really thinking them through so I often will say what's on my mind).
The question left one of the other ladies with her mouth wide open not knowing how to respond and The lady that said the statement just said, "Wow!"
You could tell she was thinking of a response but didn't know what to say. How would you respond?
We talked about how this can be a problem with Church.
We talked about how we really can't tell how people are doing Sunday mornings.
There are generic responses.
This conversation did happen a while ago but this often runs through my mind.
How often do people at Church really care for you?
I was at this one Church (I have attended about 20 Churches in my life) and was there about six months when I realized, nobody once would invite me for lunch.
I have invited multiple people to go out to lunch, but not once did someone ask us out to lunch.
I went to and tried to see how long it took someone to invite to lunch.
I gave up after four consecutive weeks.
There are so many people that can put on a show and hide true life.
This is a story about a man that could not hide who he truly was in Luke 8 starting with verse 26…
There was a man who was struggling.
He was demon possessed.
He was so tormented he no longer could wear clothes or live in a house.
He lived in the tombs.
The he saw Jesus.
He cried out to Jesus.
He asked him what did he want with him and if he would be tortured.
He asked the evil sprit to come out of the man.
This spirit was destroying this man and he had no protection.
It was strong enough that he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard.
He broken through all.
The tried to keep him in solitary places with no luck.
Jesus asked for the name of the evil spirit and it said legion.
Legion was known as a group of Roman soldiers of about 4,000.
So basically this man had thousands of evil spirits in him.
Jesus sent them away into pigs nearby and the pigs ran into the water and drowned.
The town was in fear at seeing this man normal and the pigs dead.
They sent Jesus away because of this and for him not to return.
This man got his life back.
He wanted to go with Jesus and this is what Jesus told him in verse 28 and what happened afterwards…
""Return home and tell how much God has done for you." So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him."
This man go this life back.
He was true to his word and told everyone what happened.
Everyone knew his hurts, his wrongs and couldn't do anything to help him.
We all have things that are wrong with us and need help.
This is what the Church is for.
One show I like to catch (I don't have cable past 2-12) is True life on MTV.
It's a show about True Life and documents people struggling with drugs, alcohol and almost everything that people face.
It's touching as you see people struggle and you can't do anything to help them.
We have a chance not only to be true with how we are but to help others that need help.
Is today going to be the day we change?
Have a great day.
