If I were to tell this, some would laugh or say something along the lines of “No Way” or “You’re lying.”
It changes when I say: I was with a friend and got a picture of it.
When people ask to prove it, I show them the picture (See my profile picture).
True story: I saw Magic.
How?
It was the last day of school and my friend Chad Boone and I were walking home from Dwight Rich.
As we cut through Washington Park (Which is behind my house only separated by a gate in my backyard) we see a huge family reunion going on.
We hear someone yell “Magic!” and this tall guy turns around.
It was him.
Once we knew it was him, we ran back in the house got a camera and got a picture taken with him.
If I were to tell this story on my own, people could say I was lying or not telling the truth, but having witnesses and a picture can prove it.
What does it take to show proof?
Jesus shares his testimony in John 8.
The Pharisees didn’t believe him because he was telling his story by himself.
At this time, you had to have at least two people in order to validate the testimony.
If one person ran up and told you something, it wasn’t a big deal.
If two people came up and told the same story or stood behind the other person’s story, it validated what the person was saying.
The Pharisees had issues with Jesus because nobody else could verify what he was saying at this time.
Jesus told them his story was certified by his father in heaven.
They struggled to grasp this.
Jesus therefore replied in John 8:28-29…
“When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.”
Jesus is explaining they don’t know him.
They will know what he says when he is lifted up on the cross.
Through his obedience to God, they will see his testimony.
Sometimes we miss the point.
The people at this time including the Pharisees didn’t understand this.
Jesus had obedience and love to do what God wanted him to do.
Through the best and worst of times God is with Jesus and Jesus is not alone.
Even when we think we’re all alone, when we are in times when nobody believes us, Jesus knows the truth and is there for us.
What does your testimony say about you?
Are you a person people listen to?
Do people believe what you say is true or are you someone who has to back up what you say with (This is what we used to say as kids) “I swear to God” or “I swear on my mother’s life” in order for people to believe you?
Do your actions match what you say?
Is your declaration reminiscent of the life you live?
I saw Magic and can prove it’s true.
Can people believe in what you say without other proof?
Is that necessary?
What do you think?
Jesus’s actions backed up what he said, do yours?
Have a great day.
