Over the years I have made some not so smart purchases.
I have spent money on things that have little value and not given me much joy.
I have asked for presents that the person knew were complete junk but I wanted it anyway.
Sometimes this could be small things.
I remember having toys as a kid that I wanted really bad.
Once I got the toy I found out how bad the toy was.
I remember wanting some toys really badly only to find out that after playing with it for a couple of minutes realizing it was junk.
I wanted the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles parachute pack.
I thought it was sweet.
I wanted and asked for this.
When I got it, I was excited.
When I started playing with it, I found out pretty quickly that it just drops to the ground.
The parachute was made for design but not for working.
I should have just pushed it off the bed and it would have hit the ground just as hard.
There are things that have value and things that don’t.
Sometimes we make mistakes and value what we shouldn’t.
John 12:3-5…
“Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.”
Imagine a perfume costing $40,000.
What could do with that money?
Yet Mary poured it on Jesus.
A disciple had ulterior motives, but made a valid point, did the money go to waste when it could have been spent other ways?
Jesus stood up for the women, said she did an amazing thing and did this because of his burial.
He knew the value and this was a worthy reason for using this.
What is our reason for spending money on some of the things we do?
I made some not so smart purchases of the year.
I have made some good purchases through the years too.
Nevaeh was having problems seeing.
We got her into the eye doctor and found out she needed glasses.
We didn’t budget for glasses that month but found a way to get her glasses.
It made our day when Nevaeh put on her glasses and said in the most exciting voice, “I can finally see!”
Good investment.
What do you spend your money on?
What does it benefit?
Who does it benefit?
Could you have regrets on it later?
Have a great day.
