Not a wise decision Brent

Carey Allen and myself were hanging out one night, I don’t remember what we were doing, but the whole point of the night was to get Brent to call in to work to hang out with us.

We used everything to get Brent to come.

I would say, “Come on Brent, everybody’s doing it.”

Carey would follow up with something else, it was awesome.

We did this while we were in the middle of the Allen household.

At this point Dana, Carey and Brent’s dad said something along the line of, “Brent, thinking of calling into work? Not a wise decision.”

Dana went on to tell us how (Dana worked as a manager at a grocery store) he hated how people would call in almost daily and say that there sick. Dana could never call them out and if they were lying so he would just have to deal with the fact he would be short handed.

Brent ended up not calling into work.

But the saying stuck, “Not a wise decision.”

Amaziah in chapter 7 of Amos made one of the not wise decisions when he went against God and his prophet in verse 10…

“Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent a message to Jeroboam king of Israel: “Amos is raising a conspiracy against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.”

In the words of Dana, “Not a wise decision.”

This was a man that couldn’t deal with the things Amos was saying.

I wonder what could have been his motives?

The fact God was speaking through Amos rather then him?

Amos was saying bad news and he couldn’t deal with it?

That would be an interesting conversation to have.

Amaziah had to pay the price for his actions.

His actions resulted in his wife becoming a prostitute in the city, children dying by the sword, land given away and he will now die in a pagan country.

In this case actions speak louder then words.

Words have an impact though.

It was the words that he wrote down that had an effect.

The words we say can hurt.

Sometimes the greatest thing that hurts other people is what we say.

They might not show it, but on the inside it tears them up.

At some point we will have to realize the effect our words has on people.

Whether at work, school, around the house, words can hurt and have a response that’s full of actions we don’t want to come forward.

Think about a “wise decision” you can start using your words for.

Have a great day.
