Sometimes a memory isn’t a good thing.
Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of good memories.
Memories of getting married, being in the room to see our babies being born, watching the Red Wings break their Stanley Cup drought.
These are priceless memories.
Just like there are good memories, there are bad memories.
A lot of stuff happened when we were younger between my brothers and sister.
A lot of abuse (Physical and verbal) while some are able to block this out of their memories, I can’t.
The thoughts are still stuck in my head as if they happened yesterday.
While I have forgiven those who have hurt me and my siblings, I still can’t get the picture out of my head.
Maybe this is a good thing?
Yet through all this came good advice.
When I told one of the abusers (After I have forgiven him) I was getting married, they gave me this advice, “You know how marriage is not supposed to be.”
Some of the best advice.
To be a better spouse, to be a better father, I would do the opposite of how I was raised.
Maybe it’s a good memory to have.
The only reason I was able to get this advice was because Christ gave me the power to forgive.
Forgiveness is more then just words, it’s an action.
You have to be able to show people you forgive them.
Christ did this for all of us.
Could you imagine a time before Christ was around to give us that forgiveness?
How would the world be different?
Israel did some messed up things and Amos chapter 8 is God talking to the people in verse 7…
“The Lord has sworn by the Pride of Jacob. I will never forget anything they have done.”
Not a good sign.
If I think back to all my faults, I don’t want God to call me out on them.
Would you?
This is a time before Jesus.
A time before his grace.
The people would have to suffer for their mistakes.
God has a better memory then us.
It’s a tough thing to face.
That God knows us that well.
I am glad we live now, where we have repentance and Jesus to cover all of our mistakes.
Isn’t that a great thing to have?
Believe in Jesus and God forgets all of our mistakes?
Who out there doesn’t need that forgiveness.
It’s not that far away.
Have a great day.
