There is something about getting new hockey equipment.
Whether looking online or going to Peranis it’s an amazing thing to go and get new hockey equipment.
Doing this I always thought improved my game.
I had an awful glove or catcher and buying a new one would solve all my problems.
While getting a new one did help me out, it was easy to think that was the reason why I was playing better.
A couple of years ago the NHL put in new rules for length and six of goalie equipment.
My leg pads became illegal.
They were now an inch to wide.
The idea is that there would be more scoring in the NHL as a result.
The goalies played just as well.
It wasn’t necessarily the equipment that made the player better.
Being a goalie requires quick reflexes, great coordination and hockey smarts. Not to mention my favorite, luck.
At times I would idolize my new equipment thinking it would make my game better.
I was wrong.
Anytime we put trust into things people have made, we are bound to get let down.
This was the case during Habakkuk’s time too.
Chapter 2 verse 18…
“Of what value is an idol since a
Man has carved it?
Or an image that teaches lies?
For he who makes it trusts in his own
Creation;
He makes idols that cannot speak.”
People made things then worshiped them.
Do you think that goes the same for today?
I think it could.
I would idolize getting a Playstation 3.
People idolize new clothes, money, a new car or just about anything people could imagine.
What do you idol?
Idols keep us from becoming better people and getting closer to God.
Our church is going to jump into Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University in order to help people through one of the things people tend to idol: money.
We need to stop idoling.
While new hockey equipment was nice and I thought would improve my game.
Nothing would improve it like practice and getting on the ice more.
No equipment can put you in better shape, it just sits there.
I am looking forward to Financial Peace University to help me through one area that I struggle in.
What about you?
Have a great day.
