Lucky Charms

What builds character?

What has made you a better person throughout the years?

When I look back, things that built my character were such things as working with my dad.

We had time when Zach and I would help him with a few side jobs.

One job we had was on a weekend.

We started at 5:30 in the morning working and didn't get done til after 1 a.m. 19:30 n 13

Sunday we got up and was at work at 7 a.m. and didn't leave work until 8 that night.

We worked a total of 32 hours and 30 minutes in a two day period in our young teenage years.

When our dad said that he wanted us to work harder in school, so we could have a job that didn't require tough labor everyday and pay more money, it really stuck.

Sure there were things I went through that showed some ugly sides of character, but even learning from them and not making those same mistakes has positive ramifications.

Working hard labor for over 16 hours a day for a couple of days then listening to my Dad tell us why he wanted us to work harder in school, it built character for us.

We learned how to work hard and then we learned the importance of studying.

That entire experience built some of my character.

What built your character?

How are you building character today?

God talks about traits of character in Zechariah 8 verses 16-17…

"These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render turn and sound judgment in your courts; do no plot evil against your neighbor and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this," declares the Lord.

God lists things are good character and bad.

The bad: plotting evil, swearing falsely.

The good: speak truth, sound judgment.

People could say that they tell the truth all the time.

They might say, "When my wife asks "Does this dress make me look fat?" I tell her the way it is, yes."

Truth and sound judgment go hand in hand.

We are to spend our time looking how we can help people, make this world and our neighborhood a better place.

We are not supposed to plan things that would have negative ramifications on us or other people.

Good character should overflow from us.

Does it flow from you?

Have a great day.
