Daddy!.......Daddy!.......Daddy!!!!!!
"Hang on a second Connor I am in the middle of a conversation," I responded to my son.
"Oh," Connor says.
Then when I was done with my sentence Connor goes, "Look at me."
He continues to shoot and make a basket at our home.
I respond with the typical encouragement, "Great shot buddy!"
Connor smiles and turns away.
Kids are persistent when they have something they want.
I love our kids to death, but at times I can't always respond right away.
Connor isn't happy until you look at him and recognize what he is doing.
At times we do this.
We all want someone to check out the good thing I am doing.
Whether it's helping someone out, giving someone money, giving our time and effort, we all have something we want to be recognized for.
This is something we always have to watch out for.
Jesus talks about giving with the right mindset in Matthew chapter 6 verses 1-2…
"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."
Jesus teaches us a noble lesson from people that gave just so people could see them giving.
It was with a selfish desire.
We all have to keep ourselves in check at times.
When I served at South Lansing Christian Church, periodically we would have someone come in and put gift cards to go and eat at restaurants.
It was awesome!
I never did know exactly who did it (I am pretty sure I know now from the hand writing) but they did not do this so we would think, "Wow this person is great for doing this."
They left it completely anonymous.
God doesn't want us to do things just to be rewarded, there are some rewards we won't get until we are in heaven.
I usually get stuck in the trap of doing chores around the house to get noticed, it's one of the little things that I should do anyways, but at times I get irritated when Hailee doesn't notice them.
I need to keep myself in check and make sure I do things with the right motives.
How about you?
Jesus wants us to do things unselfishly, what can you work on to make this happen?
Have a great day.
