Love

"I love….desk." (Brick)

"Brick, are you just looking at things in the office and saying that you love them?" (Ron Burgundy)

"I love lamp." (Brick)

"Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying it because you saw it?" (Ron Burgundy)

"I love lamp. I love lamp." (Brick)

The famous I love lamp.

This movie was filled with memorable quotes that made me laugh.

The key about the quotes above….love.

Love, it's such an easy thing yet so hard.

Love is something we all need. Yet it's so hard for us to show it.

Christians are no exemption we are sometimes the worst at it.

I was once new to a Church with my wife Hailee.

While everyone was nice, we were never really invited over to someone's house for dinner during the first five or six months we were there.

We were rarely asked to go out to lunch after Church unless we brought it up.

Hailee and I felt alone, wondered what God had in store for us because this was not the home feeling we had in a Church.

While it did get better overtime, it was a hard step to take that people weren't inviting us in.

We felt like an outcast for a while.

Christians often struggle with showing love.

At this same time I started playing in local hockey leagues two days a week.

After the first game playing with two different teams, I got invited to go out to sports bar for drinks.

These people didn't even know me. For all they knew, I could have been a serial killer.

Yet they would even invite a guy they don't even know out for drinks.

From the conversation of these guys, I would only guess maybe two or three would be Christian.

I felt more at home with these people then I did around Christians that I saw on Sunday.

Is there something wrong with this picture?

We miss out on what love truly is.

Have you experienced this before?

Jesus talks about love for our enemies in Matthew 5 verse 44 and 46-47…

"But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you….If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?"

Love, it's easy to say hard to do.

Jesus wants us to go the extra mile, yet most of the time we give up after the first few steps.

We already love the people we are around why do we need more friends?

Over a week ago, I said I was going to try to meet my neighbor.

I found out the house is a duplex and I was finally able to meet one of our neighbors, we chatted for a couple of seconds, but it gave us a chance to get to know one another.

Such a little task such as getting to know our neighbors took five months to do.

It just wasn't on my mind.

We all fall short when it comes to love.

What can you to do change?

To show people more love?

Jesus calls us to love our enemies, what a hard concept.

We have to show love before people show us love.

Until we grasp that concept we are a fish out of water.

Brick loved lamp.

I just wanted to be loved at the Church I was at and found more love outside of the Church.

It took me a while to get to know our neighbors.

Jesus calls us to love our enemies.

How can we be more loving?

Have a great day.
