Unity

Being a fan of sports you can see when a player cares more about themselves rather then a team.
There has been no greater show of this then the Detroit Pistons this past year.
The Pistons were a contender for the championship the past several years but only had one championship to show for it in 2004.
It was Joe D. who decided they needed a change to go for another championship and traded point guard Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson.
I thought at first this would be a good thing and help bring them a championship, it quickly turned wrong.
The Pistons struggled the rest of the year.
They went from a top team to barely making the playoffs. They were easily swept in the first round.
One player changed the chemistry of the team.
Took a team from a championship team to average.
When there is no unity, games are lost and it goes deeper then that.
In Christianity, there are 38,000 denominations.
This is an interesting thing.
Some people could care less about this, but some people are very denominationally driven.
I think it comes down to what Christ says in Matthew chapter 12 verse 30…
“He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.”
I honestly think Christ could care less about denominations.
He just cares if people are following him.
You are either for Christ or against him.
There is really no middle ground.
I am all for Unity, partnering with other Churches to do things.
I could easily be conflict if I just focused on numbers.
Union Christian Church is within a 2 mile drive from a church of 1100 and a 1 mile drive from a Church of I think 600.
It could get pretty easy to focus on what I can do to try and have the biggest youth group, but I think I would mostly beat a dead horse.
I get together with the other youth ministers and during this past school year help lead a campus life club with them.
Matt Troyer, Rob Ball and Shawn Riggs all got together to do a middle school program for 100-150 kids during the year.
It’s great having a unity.
I think this is what Christ wants.
Four different Churches with four different backgrounds yet we all come together to try and reach people not for our churches but for Christ.
Unity is a beautiful thing.
Whether it’s with your immediate family or with your Church family, its always great to have unity.
Have a great day.
