Liar Liar

There are certain things we say that have hidden meanings.

Liar Liar is one that Hailee and I have.

Other sayings that I could say that have a hidden meaning…

Toby Mac

Robert Pierre

Rebecca St. James

Next level

Cupcake

Die

Other sayings that change just based on the tone of voice…

Dude

Alright

In our culture we do this too…

Happy Hour (Usually just means a certain time 2-4 at Sonic J)

End of the day (Ex. "Johnson, get me those documents by the end of the day").

Punching in

He's on fire

It's raining cats and dogs.

What are some that you say or heard?

We are in a culture of hidden meanings.

Jesus used hidden meanings too that when we first look at them can leave us scratching our heads.

Matthew 16:6…

"Be careful," Jesus said to them. "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."

The disciples instantly thought he meant he was talking about yeast or bread.

They were worried because after the feeding of the 4,000 they gave away their bread and didn't have any.

Jesus heard them talking and explain to them in greater detail what he was talking about.

Verse 11 is some of that explanation…

"How is it you don't understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."

Finally the light bulb shined.

Jesus was telling them to watch out for the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Watch out for false teaching was the message he wanted to spread, but at first the disciples didn't get it.

We miss the mark sometimes with what is said.

We are no different than the disciples.

We have to listen carefully for different messages and how they are said.

When we don't pay attention, we can often miss the message completely.

I have done this multiple times.

Yet with Jesus he challenges us everyday, with his words, with how he lived his life and us trying to live like him.

Yet believing in Jesus is not that complicated.

Repent (Turn away from sins/mistakes in our lives), recognize he was perfect and that you will follow him with your life and get baptized.

No hidden meaning in that.

Jesus can go deep but he can also go simple.

Some messages are hard to understand.

Trying to figure out what somebody's agenda can be tricky.

Jesus never meant for that to happen when it come to faith, he challenges us but yet the foundation of Jesus is very simple.

Have a great day.
