A simple question asked in the first Adams Family movie.
A girl scout was trying to check if the Lemonade was 100 percent real.
She wanted to make sure it was pure.
She asked different questions to prove it was good.
Then at the end she asked Wednesday, I will buy some of your lemonade if you buy some of my Girls Scout Cookies.
Wednesday asked one question, "Are they made by real girls' scouts?"
The girl walked away.
It's so easy to want this in life.
We want something pure, authentic and right.
Sometimes we find ourselves being the exact opposite of what we want.
We want to believe in something pure and authentic.
We vote for a president who we believe is pure and authentic.
Sometimes we get let down or it's easy to skip on the things that are authentic.
The chief priests and elders of the people wanted to see if Jesus was true and an authority as he claimed to be.
They asked, "Who gave him this authority?"
His answer was in Matthew 21:24-25…
"I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John's baptism – where did it come from? Was it from heaven or from men?"
Just like Wednesday shoved a question down the Girl Scout, Jesus does this with the leaders.
The leaders had to think.
They knew Jesus had them that either way they answered him people would see they are not authentic because they either don't believe what they claim to believe.
Or the people would riot against them if they answered the other way.
So they responded, "We don't know."
So Jesus wouldn't respond to them.
It's easy to want something pure and authentic; it's hard to do the same.
It's easy to do things just because we want to do them but then expect someone to go the extra mile for us.
This isn't how life is supposed to be.
We are called to be authentic and loving people.
Often we can be the exact opposite.
Today can be a different day.
We don't have to be stuck in the past or stuck behind what other people think about us.
We can change and become better more authentic people.
What can you do to change?
Have a great day.
