Sell out

I am not going to lie, I am a sellout.

How little have I "sold out" for????

A dollar.

Yep, I sold out for a dollar.

When I was in high school, I want to Campus Life, there was a series we were doing titled something like "What would you do for a dollar?"

I raised my hand to do this.

At this point, I think Matt Coppess cracked two eggs open and poured them in a cup.

Yep, I did the Rocky.

I knew I would gag, so my original idea was just to get it down as quick as possible.

I threw it down and almost instantly spit it back up.

It was nasty, why would you do this Rocky?

I swallowed it down and got my dollar.

It took a liter of pop to get rid of the taste.

I don't think people realize how we sell out.

We take jobs we wouldn't normally take just for the money or for the insurance.

I knew a lady at Central Michigan who talked about going into PR (Public Relations) and working for a company she believed in.

She was a morally righteous person and she told me she thought she found a good company for her Philip Morris.

She was just excited that a company was looking at her and we talked about it and she really didn't care what the company did but thought it was a good work experience.

I am not going to claim to be any better.

Sometimes we sell out we out even realizing it.

Have you ever been stuck in this trap?

Even after years of being around people one of the people close to Jesus was going to sell out.

Judas got away from the group and went to the chief priests and asks this question in Matthew 26:15-16…

"What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over."

The 30 coins was the amount given for a slave.

Judas spent three years close to him and yet was far from him.

Judas just went through the motion while knowing all the amazing things Jesus has done.

Now there are two types of selling out.

There is selling out for what you believe in and there is selling out for what you don't believe in.

We tend to sell out for things we don't believe in.

We can say we come to Church to worship God (we sell ourselves for God).

Yet when sing and praise him we do this with a monotone voice and can't wait till that second song is over to sit down.

Yet that's called praising God.

Then later in the afternoon we are yelling and celebrating, jumping up and down and giving high fives after our favorite football team scores.

Could you see God slapping himself in the forehead and wondering why do they worship and praise a football team scoring a touchdown over me?

This isn't right and I am just as guilty as the next person when it comes to this.

We say we put our hearts fully to God then don't bring him up or do anything to show we follow him through the week.

It requires more than saying, "How I live my life is how I worship God."

Really?

I have heard and seen multiple people say this throughout the years then wonder why there kid doesn't want to come to Church and the first chance they have to leave Church they do.

They see their parents so called "Sell Out" for God and they don't back it up with their lives.

They see them going to Church on Sunday and never praying or picking up a Bible through the week.

We all can fall into the trap of being sell outs.

Is it something truly worth selling out for?

Judas sold out for the wrong reasons.

What's do you sell out for?

Is that what you want people to remember you for?

I know I need to change in this area, what's something you can change this week?

Have a great day.
