Taunting

Yesterday I watched some football.

In the limited time watching, one player made a tackle and got in the other person's face.

Instantly a flag was thrown and a 15 yard taunting penalty was charged.

The guy made a really nice play, what was the point of getting in his face?

It didn't make sense to me.

The guy was already down and yet this guy still got in his face.

He basically kicked him when he was down.

Why?

What's the point?

We do a pretty good job in society of kicking people when they are down.

I have seen a teenager pregnant and everyone throws in their two cents at the teenager.

They have no problem going up to that person and saying things like, should have used protection or this is why you wait till you are married.

If a teenager is pregnant, they already have a lot of stresses going on without people telling them what they should do.

Why do we do this?

Not just with teenage pregnancy or in football, we do a really good job of kicking people when they are down.

Why?

Following Jesus is following a person who dealt the most with getting kicked while down.

Jesus was beat, flogged, charge with false charges and now he is walking with the cross to his death.

He was put on the cross and people still ripped on him.

Matthew 27:42…

"He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! He's the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him."

Even on his deathbed they made fun of him.

Even those who followed him turned their backs on him.

It was a sad sight.

People kicked him when we was down.

It's easy to say we would never do this, yet we do.

Christians have a tendency to show a lack of faith.

It's easy to say I am a Christian, be baptized, go to Church every week then rush home for the Sunday afternoon game.

It's hard to live our faith out.

When we don't show our faith or do anything to improve our faith, we fall short.

God accepts us as sinners, but doesn't accept us to remain complacent.

We have to continue to move and improve in life and in faith.

If you got paid for your faith, did you do anything to show you would merit a raise this year?

People ripped on Jesus, made fun of him while he was dying on the cross for their sins.

What's our excuse for not showing faith and ripping/taunting other people?

Is what we are doing pleasing to God?

What do you think?

Have a great day.
