There are times in our life when we face something we don't expect.
For a lot of people this could be a sudden storm.
A loss of a job, an unexpected pregnancy, a test we are unprepared for or finding ourselves in a situation we didn't expect to be in.
This happens and we find ourselves sinking quick.
About two years ago I found myself in a situation I didn't expect to be in.
This resulted in me feeling pretty depressed.
I felt like I couldn't do anything right and I thought things would get better, they got worse.
Ever feel like that?
I was beat down maybe not physically but mentally.
I kept calling out to God, is this what you had planned for my life?
I might not have hit rock bottom, but the hit still hurt.
We all go through times like that.
Some people are going through that right now.
Jesus teaches about facing a storm in our life in Mark 4.
He just got done teaching and was ready to go across a lake, on the boat he was looking forward to peace and quiet.
Jesus fell asleep on the boat.
At this time a huge storm hit.
The waves were big enough they were breaking over the boat.
Jesus was asleep while this was going on.
Finally they decided to wake Jesus and he replied in verses 38-39…
"Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm."
First, this took a lot for the disciples to do this.
They were experienced fisherman.
They fished for a living, do you think they never faced a storm before?
My opinion, this would take a lot for them to have to wake Jesus up because they had experience.
They knew they were overmatched.
They woke Jesus up (How much of a deep sleep was Jesus in that he couldn't even be woken by a huge storm?)
Jesus with three words quieted the storm.
The disciples were in shock, they wondered who was this man?
The waves and water obeyed him.
They were shocked.
All it took was calling out to Jesus for the storm to be stopped.
How often do we try to handle things on our own without turning for help?
There comes a point when we have to ask for help.
We try to do this with people, but often it comes to down to the only thing we can turn to is Jesus.
Does it mean things will change overnight?
No.
But God gives us a peace that nobody ever has before.
My situation mentioned above did not get better overnight.
It took time, and when it got better, God was the only person I could thank for taking me out of that awful situation and putting me in a much better one.
The disciples situation did not get better until they called out to God.
What situation are you going through that it would taking calling out to God?
It's not always an easy thing to do, but it is so much worth it.
Believe me.
Have a great day.
