On one of my TV shows there was a guy that liked to give out high fives.
You could go up to him and say, man I am feeling kind of down today.
He would reply, "feeling down five."
He would then slap their hand and go on their way.
Well a group of people were fighting for a couple of jobs.
They were looking to do anything to get ahead.
The boss forgot his briefcase and didn't want to go upstairs to get it.
So one of the people fighting for a job runs up stairs to get it.
As he was coming down the stairs and about to give it to his boss, the high five guy comes up to him.
He raises his hand for a high five and so does the other.
Then he says, "Betrayal five."
"Huh?" was the other guys response.
At this time the high five guy slaps the other guys across the chest (which causes him to fall to the ground) and grabs the briefcase to take it to their boss.
It was funny how they did this.
The man laying on the ground now did listen to what his friend said, but still went through with the actions of thinking he was giving him a high five.
He was betrayed.
Just like he was betrayed, so was Jesus by one of the people close to him.
Jesus has dinner with his disciples, at this dinner he says in Mark 14:18…
"I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me – one who is eating with me."
They went around after this one by one and told him surely not I.
He tells them the one who dips their bread into the bowl with me of the 12 will do this.
Basically they would dip whatever they were eating into a bowl just like you would do with au jus or with chips in salsa.
They said whoever you dipped with was very close to you and matter so much to you.
So whoever did this and betrayed Jesus was really in the wrong.
Jesus also starts this verse out in an interesting way, I tell you the truth.
I take this as someone saying, "I swear to God or I swear on my mother's grave."
Jesus has to basically tell them listen up.
Someone did betray him close in that room.
Whether we admit it or not, we all have betrayed Jesus just like this one did.
Maybe we didn't literally betray him, but he betrayed him with our actions.
We are all at fault.
Yet this is what Jesus did for us.
He knew we were in the wrong, he knew we would betray him with our thoughts and actions.
Yet he still died on the cross for our sins.
Bold move for some undeserving people.
We are not deserving of eternal life, but this is what Jesus gives us when we believe in him.
We get grace.
Grace is getting what you don't deserve.
For our actions we all deserve to putting in bluntly, go to Hell.
But Jesus died on the cross for our sins and mistakes.
All it takes for faith in Jesus is acknowledging what he did for each one of us.
It's amazing what Jesus did for us.
Today could be a new day for you.
To accept what Jesus did for us and to live for him.
No matter how far we think we are from Jesus, we are never that far away where he won't accept us.
We can change when we accept Jesus and accept his forgiveness.
Do you need forgiveness?
Grace?
Now would be a good time to recognize what Jesus did, it's amazing.
Have a great day.
