It's amazing to see how quick news can happen.
As a kid, I loved waking up in the morning and meeting the paper boy at the door to read the sports section.
I loved quickly flipping and seeing how the Tigers did the night before and to find out what Jack Ebling wrote.
We had a bed time of 9 o'clock so I was never able to find out how the Tigers did late at night.
I would rush to the door to get the paper from the paper boys hand in the morning for the fastest news I could get at the time.
That was quick then.
It would be the slowest method now.
Now we have the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, texting and cell phones to give us up to date information as they happen.
It's been an interesting change.
Yet all of these go back to an original form of spreading news, word of mouth.
Things pass so much quicker through people.
Even during biblical times this happened.
Jesus heals a man with Leprosy.
After healing the man, he tells him to don't tell anyone but to go to the priest and do the usual sacrifices for cleansing (This is normal).
Yet this is what was said in Luke 5:15-16…
"Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."
Even when Jesus tells someone to be quiet the news still spread.
While news spread, Jesus would try to still spend some time in prayer.
News can travel fast.
We all have the chance to comment quickly and update people.
Is what we are sharing good news or bad news?
Do we lift up people with what we say or are we just gossiping?
We can have a positive impact on people just like we could have a negative impact on people.
What is your choice?
Are you going to spend today lifting people up or tearing them down with the news you spread?
What do you think?
I am going to try to spend today encouraging people, how about you?
Have a great day.
