It's easy to talk and harder to do.
We can take this with all forms.
It's easy to talk about how easy it would be to play professional sports then to actually play professional sports.
They actually have a TV show for this titled, "Joes vs. Pros."
People that think they can hand with the professional athletes go on and compete against them.
You hear some of these guys talk a lot of trash and they get taken out.
It's easy to say you can beat a professional athlete then to actually beat one at their sport.
This just doesn't happen with sports, it happen in everyday life.
I knew a guy that would talk about how he wasn't a prideful man.
This would be a line he would say, "I am not a prideful man….I take pride in …"
What did you just say I am not a prideful man and then say I take pride in the same sentence?
Yes, this person did.
In Church it can be easy for ministers to see how well they are doing based off of the numbers.
I once heard a guy say this, "Some people are all about the numbers. That is not me. I am not a numbers guy and when you get wrapped into number it can overtake you…I am amazed though that we had 83 people at this fellowship event last year."
What?
I thought you weren't a numbers guy?
Practice requires action anyone can stand up and preach about a topic they are passionate about.
Jesus shares this in Luke 6:47-48…
"I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built."
We are challenged all the time to practice what we preach.
Jesus gives us the example of the people who apply what he teaches.
He relates this to a foundation of a house.
When the storm hits it's sturdy and can withhold the storm.
After this he gives the example of the people that don't have that foundation and when the storm hits their home is gone.
Anybody can talk a great game.
It's easy to get up and know Church.
You can pray, teach, or lead in a Church but real faith show's itself when things don't go the way you want.
Do you say if you have a problem with someone you will go to that person's face?
Then find yourself talking behind that person's back.
Do you find yourself talking about how we are to love other people but you find yourself unable to love your neighbor because one time their dog used the bathroom on your lawn?
Practice what we preach is often the hardest task in the world.
It's something I have been working on but am far from perfect.
I still have a long way to go but will continue to try and improve?
Do you practice what you preach?
Have a great day.
