Who is my family?

I always jokingly say I have a Jerry Springer family.

When I add up all the brothers, sisters, sisters-in law, brothers-in-law and step siblings, I have 14.

When you get down to it, it gets even weirder.

My closest brother Zach (We are about 18 months apart) I am not even blood related to.

I have one full blood sibling, Onna.

When people ask me how many siblings I have, I usually tell them three, Onna, Zach and Nathaniel.

But it doesn't include my other brother Zane and sister Rachel.

I have a very interesting family.

I love it, but it can get confusing sometimes.

Nevaeh came up to me a little while ago and said, "Daddy you have a lot of mommies and daddies."

Today, she asked how many grandpa and grandma's I have.

It's weird the situations we grow up in.

I never had the traditional family and honestly I'm ok with that.

It made me who I am today.

With being a Christian it mixes things up even more.

Jesus had his mother and brothers come and visit him.

There was a huge crowd around him and they couldn't get through.

Someone spoke up and told him his family was here to see him.

Jesus responded in Luke 8:21…

"My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice."

This completely changes the idea of what family can be about in Christ.

This means that we have those who are family and those who are spiritual family.

It really changes things.

Hailee and I believe we were called to come down to Terre Haute, IN.

We miss our friends and family completely, but we felt called to move.

I have never lived an hour outside of Lansing and now I am living about 5 hours away.

It's scary going out on a limb for God's call.

Yet the kingdom of God is not divided by city, state or country boarders.

Whoever is doing God's will is spiritual family.

Family goes beyond our understanding.

It's easy to get homesick when you don't have anyone to rely on.

But God takes care of us.

I love my family and God created a spiritual one for us to love as well.

Have a great day.
