Christmas and kids is an interesting adventure.
Our kids are in the "I want" phase.
They see toys, "I want that for Christmas."
This happens between 5 and 20 times a day.
They get into this mentality.
We have to look at what they want for gifts and get them something worthy yet not trying to ruin the true meaning of Christmas.
We have to watch out for greed.
Greed, not only among our kids, but among ourselves.
We want so much ourselves, then we want to get our kids so much.
We want to treat our kids better then we got treated.
Sometimes we miss the value of giving gifts with a true heart and what the real meaning of the season is for.
Now we have to watch out for greed.
Jesus tells us this in Luke 12:15…
"Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
We need to keep ourselves in check with greed.
Jesus was telling this to a rich man who was trying to get Jesus to have his brother share his inheritance with him.
We all get into I want phases.
Off the top of my head here's what I want…
New shoes
PS3
Cable
That is just right off the top of my head, I am sure if I thought about this more a lot more things would pop up that I would want.
I am more selfish then I would like to admit sometimes.
I can be greedy, selfish and pout when something doesn't go my way.
I have to watch out for my desires and keep them in check.
Christmas is a time of giving.
It's giving out of what we have not out of our credit cards or loans we take out.
Christmas is a time when we recognize that God gave us the greatest gift in the world in Jesus.
We recognize that gift and how unworthy we are to receive that gift.
Christmas is so much more then material possessions.
I need to be reminded of that sometimes.
How about you?
Have a great day.
