I love getting a great deal.
Whenever I would get new hockey equipment, I would shop around and make sure I was getting a good deal.
It was rare to pay full price for hockey equipment.
When I go shopping for something I want, I shop around.
I don’t go store to store, but I will shop online and then usually at one or two stores.
At one point, I wanted a new pair of hockey skates.
I went out to Perani’s and checked out what they had for skates.
They had a pro boot goalie skate normally about $450 and had it on sale for $300.
It was a good price, but I decided not to get it yet.
We drove an hour to this store and wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon.
We decided to wait.
I went online and found the exact skate for $189.
Shopping can be fun when you save a great deal.
Today we have the internet and the ability to drive, this wasn’t always the case.
It was hard to shop around in Biblical times.
People shopped for things in places you wouldn’t normal shop at, the Church at the time.
Yes, people would sell things inside the Temple.
Could you imagine going shopping at Church?
People were trying to make a profit and not use it for the benefit of ministry or the Church.
They wanted money and the spiritual leaders were ok with this.
Jesus was not.
Luke 19:45-46…
“Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling. “It is written,” he said. “My house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”
This is different than today in which you might see people raising money by having a bake sale to send people to serve as a missionary in Haiti.
This was a money making scheme and Jesus was not okay with this.
People were ticked at Jesus for doing this and looked for a way to kill him.
They had no such look because the people were listening and enjoying what Jesus told them.
The Church is a spiritual place, a house of prayers, not a marketplace.
Sometimes we can get caught up what Church is for.
The Church is a place to grow closer to God.
Sometimes the building or our own thoughts can get in the way of what a Church is.
Remember the Church is all about faith and growing closer to God.
Have a great day.
