Do we always have good intentions?
For the majority of us, I would say that try to have good intentions with what we do or say.
We fall short of this sometimes.
A long time ago I was meeting with some leaders.
We were talking about an up and coming event and how we were going to help with it.
One of the leaders was trying to get a hold of the leader of the event and did not have any luck.
As a result this person went on to bad mouth the leader in front of a group of us.
They ripped him apart, their character, how they were as a person and what she/he thought of him.
This was in a room of people the majority of which have never met this leader and all they heard about the leader was how bad they were.
From this conversation, you would never see any love or thought this person was a God loving person.
We sometimes get wrapped into our own thoughts about people.
Sometimes without even realizing it, we have bad intentions.
I struggle with this at times, I think we if were honest, we all struggle with this.
We judge before we think, also known as putting our foot in our mouths.
Jesus died three days ago and a man approach a couple of disciples and heard them talking.
He asked what they were talking about.
They were in the midst of talking about Jesus and how he was killed.
There first thought, dude, do you not know what happened in Jerusalem the past week?
He asked what happened.
They went on to tell him this in Luke 24:19-24…
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”
Did you read through and catch that?
They had hoped Jesus would be the one to redeem Israel.
They had no idea what Jesus did when he died on the cross.
They had their thoughts with what happened and even though they were close to Jesus they were still missing a little bit.
They thought they knew, but really had no idea.
Sometimes we talk without knowing the real story.
Almost every basketball analyst said VCU should not be in the NCAA tournament.
They ripped the school apart.
Yet VCU, a team that shouldn’t be in the NCAA tournament is now in the Final Four.
We think we know, but we have no idea.
The disciples thought they knew what Jesus was about and who he was.
They had no idea.
Without even realizing it the person they were talking about was the person who asked him these questions.
I have no idea why they didn’t notice Jesus was asking these questions.
Sometimes we have no clue.
Even with the best of intentions sometimes, we miss the point.
Is there a time when you spoke out of turn about someone?
It’s never too late to apologize to that person and get on the right track.
Who do you need to apologize too?
Who were you wrong about or spoke about someone without thinking things through?
What do you think?
Have a great day.
