Horror movies still give me nightmares

I am 30 and still get nightmares from horror movies.

I feel like I shouldn’t be saying that, but oh well.

Horror movies are not for me.

They freak me out and I don’t enjoy sitting in suspense just to see someone surprise someone, freak them out and kill them.

Not my cup of tea.

Anytime I see a movie like this, it completely freaks me out.

This is why I tend to focus on educational movies like Dumb and Dumber.

I get scared, a little freaked out from watching scary movies.

I get scared with other areas of life too.

I’m scared of several different things.

The first one that pops in my head is losing my family.

What are you afraid of in life?

Paul was going to share the word of God in a city with unbelievers in the city of Corinth.

Corinth was known to be a pretty ruthless city.

It was full of sexual sins of every kind and was not a very holy place.

Yet while staying here, God says this to Paul in verses 9-10…

“Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.”

Even in a city like Corinth, God has many people there.

This would be kinda like Vegas.

Even though it’s still called sin city there are Christians there trying to change the city.

God gives Paul the ability to stay bold and not to fear.

God is with Paul.

God can be with you with what you are going through in life.

You do not have to be afraid.

Jesus loves you and even through the worst of times you are going through in life, he loves you.

He cares for you, thinks of you as one of his own.

While tough times will happen, it’s nice to have the love of God with you.

What do you fear?

What are you scared of?

Know this.

God can be with you.

God wants to be there for you.

It just requires you calling out to him.

What do you think?

Have a great day.

I got your back

There is no offense like a good defense.

When thinking of sports I thought this was dumb.

I always thought if you attacked more and put up a lot of points, you would be doing well.

The older I get the more I value a good defense.

The 1995 Detroit Lions were a lock for the playoffs and it was because of their offense.

Their QB Scott Mitchell had a touchdown to interception ratio of 32-12.  Barry Sanders rushed for 1,500 yards and Herman Moore and Brett Perriman each had over 100 catches on the year.

The offense was unstoppable….until the playoffs.

The Lions lost to the Eagles 10-7.

They were such a good offense but could only manage 7 points?

Defense matters.

There is something about protection and knowing someone is there to stop bad stuff from happening.

In football a good defense can make a world of difference and protect a team.

It goes beyond that in life.

We all need good protection, someone to watch our back, protect us from something bad happening.

Jesus started out John chapter 17 (Jesus longest section of scripture on prayer) on prayer and he continues on in the next section.

Listen to this part of prayer, talks about the disciples…

“I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.  My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.”

They lived for Christ and as a result Christ lived for them.

In his prayer he asks for protection for them.

This doesn’t mean they wouldn’t face trials, temptations and tribulations, but that God would watch over them when bad stuff happens.

Who watches over you when bad stuff happens?

Do you try to handle it on your own?

Do you go to others for help?

Bad stuff happens in this world, this is why people have different types of insurance in case bad things do happen.

God has the ability to protect us in ways we don’t have in human ways.

I believe there have been multiple times in my life when something really bad should or could have happened and God is the only reason something worse didn’t happen.

How about you?

The Lions had a good offense but lacked the ability to protect the endzone more than the Eagles and lost.

Who protects and watches over you to make sure bad stuff doesn’t happen?

Imagine the different that can make.

Have a great day.

Porn......and Pancakes

Dirty Little Secret

We hear about it but we don’t talk about it.

We see it, but we don’t.

It’s all around us but it’s not.

What is it…..

Porn.

There is not a lot of talk in general about sex in the Church and for teens the most obvious answer is just don’t do it.

We are called to handle the situation more than just this.

Sexual Immorality covers every sexual sin possible, examples, porn, adultery, masturbation, lust, prostitution and well you get the point.

If you think this is a matter that is dealt with outside of Church, think again.

On average…

The average age a student first looks at pornography is 11.
90 % of teens 8-16 have viewed a porn site (most while doing homework).
Christians who said pornography is a major problem – 47%.
Regularly 40 million adults visit pornography websites daily.
If you think this is just men….
1 of every 3 visitors to adult web sites are women. (All of these stats are on xxxchurch.com)
This is a huge issue nobody talks about.
It can get even more dangerous with the fact rather than looking on computers, it’s easily accessible by Ipods, cell phones and other hand held internet devices.

As Christians we are told…

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4.

The problem is sometimes we need help to make this happen and it’s a subject we don’t want to ask for help on.

So here is some help…

As a Church we are hosting an event on Sept 17th.

It’s called Porn and Pancakes and is through the organization xxxchurch.com

XXXchurch.com was based by Craig Cross to answer the need to help people out of the film industry and to help people struggling with all aspects of porn.

This is a breakfast in which we bring in two nationally known speakers on this subject in Jake Larson and Brian McGinness.

They will talk about the porn industry, how it affects the Church and what we can do about it.

We all need accountability if we are moving towards being more like Christ.

Check this out and pass it along, it could save, a teen from making wrong ideas or thinking of sex in an ungodly way (Sex was meant to be great for a husband and wife), a future marriage, a marriage or a single person trying to live a pure life.

If you need help, there is help, it doesn’t have to be a dirty little secret anymore.

Even if you don’t need help, this is a great breakfast to give you resources that will help you, your family, your Church, your kids or your grandchildren.

Have a great day.
