We had our dad's workshop.
We were told when were in our dad's workshop we could say whatever we wanted.
That we were allowed to cuss or say whatever we wanted.
At first we thought this was cool.
We have a place we could say whatever we wanted.
Soon we would test to see how far we could go from this.
We would do this in the basement and test our limits.
We started to comfortably swear from this.
Honestly for a long time we always heard these words, we even knew they were bad words, but we would say this because we now could.
We heard the words, but this did not mean they had to come out of our mouths.
It's hard to break out of that habit.
At times I struggle with this.
Yet still it's me who says the words and no one else.
I can't pass the blame on to someone else.
While I heard these words, there is no reason I have for saying them.
It's a struggle, but it's my choice to say the words that come out of my mouth.
Jesus talks about what makes a man clean isn't what goes in.
Matthew 14:18-20…
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean."
Jesus explains the Pharisees were so concerned about being literally clean before eating rather than having a clean heart.
They were sinful but covered it up with the ceremonies to make them look clean.
It's not what goes in that causes us to sin but what comes out.
It's our choice our decision and no one else.
I try to get other people to hold me accountable to swearing.
It's my choice and it's something I have to accept the words that come out of my mouth.
It a choice I have to make.
Jesus goes deep into heart with other sins that are deep issues.
None of these issues are from coming into the person, but what comes out.
There is nothing that Jesus can't forgive, but there are things we need to work on.
What do you need to work on?
Have a great day.
