Sleep: everyone does it

At times it's hard to stay awake.

People have many different ways of making them stay awake longer.

I usually try to stay hydrated with some water.

If I want to pull an all nighter, a little caffeine will do the trick, keeps me up forever.

Maybe it's because of how little of it I drink but I can have a little drink and it goes a long way.

Other people it might take a lot more.

For some they used to be able to stay awake on a cup of coffee, now it takes several.

Others do the energy drink or five hour energy drink boost.

I have had maybe two energy drinks in my life.

We have different things that keep us awake.

Sometimes it doesn't work.

No matter how hard we try, we can't stay awake.

It happens to the best of us.

I rarely take a nap, periodically though, I might find myself crashing.

Sometimes it's just hard to fight off.

Jesus knows that soon he will be taken and put on trial.

He goes off to pray and takes James, John and Peter with him.

It gets late and they are very tired.

Jesus takes off to pray and comes back to find them sleeping.

He asks them why they can't stay awake.

He takes off and this happens again, one of his lines he said came from Matthew 26:41…

"…The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

I am sure the disciples wanted to spend every waking moment with him, sometimes even the most willing people can't keep up.

Almost 10 years ago I ran a marathon.

I can still remember some of the pain I experienced in that race.

As the race went on and I was at mile 21, mentally I felt great. I felt I could pick up my pace and run faster.

My body laughed at my mind. I had almost no ability to run.

In my opinion, I couldn't imagine the disciples not wanting to be awake.

Sometimes the body is weaker then the mind.

Sometimes we just have to plan better.

If we know we are going to be awake for most of the night, we have to counter act that by sleeping more the day before or the night after.

Sometimes whether it's with dealing with work or home problems, our spirit might be willing, but our body just can't keep up.

We have to be prepared some of the time for what we don't expect.

What do you need to do a better job preparing for?

Is your spirit willing but your body isn't?

What can you do to change that?

Have a great day.
