At times it's easy to say a lie.
We are trying to teach our kids it's better to tell the truth then lie about it.
It's amazing how quickly kids could know they could get in trouble and start lying.
How does this start?
How do they know they could get in trouble?
Most of the time, we do a good job of thanking Nevaeh for telling the truth.
We remind her not to do the thing she did wrong.
Usually Nevaeh improves and is better with acting and telling us the truth.
This past Saturday I did not handle it as well.
Nevaeh came up to me and said, "I did something wrong."
I replied, "Ok, what did you do wrong?"
(She usually stumbles over a couple of words at this point before she continues talking).
She said, "I put the meat back in the freezer."
Here's the story with the meat.
Hailee was going to make something like peach pork chops, the meat was in the freezer and we put it out to thaw it out.
Nevaeh wanted Nachos for dinner, I told her what we were having and she wasn't happy.
She snuck over and put the meat back in the freezer, I have no idea how long.
When she told me what she did, I was not happy.
I picked her up and put her in timeout.
Usually we thank her for telling the truth and tell her what she did was wrong.
I did not handle it that way this time.
I was kind of ticked she did this even though looking back on it, it was a small thing.
I put her in timeout and then took the meat out.
I didn't handle it right in my mind and would do things different if I had to do it again.
We get in the habit of telling lies because we know the bad things that could happen.
The guards who were watching Jesus were in the same type of predicament.
For opening the tomb and the body not being there, they would be subject to death.
So they went to the known enemies of Jesus and asked what they should do.
They were given a large sum of money (I have no idea how much this is) and told to say this in Matthew 28:13…
"His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep."
They continued on to say if this report gets to the governor, we will keep you out of trouble.
Basically the chief priests would be bribing the high official too.
Just one little lie.
The guards did this to keep their lives.
The story doesn't make any sense.
The disciples were separated at this point, they feared persecution and were not together.
They went their separate ways and were afraid to show their face in public.
So all of a sudden they were supposed to be united and sneak through some sleeping guards?
The lie doesn't make sense.
This is what had to happen though in order for the guards to save their lives.
The end of this section is some of the Jews believe this thought all the way to today.
That's a lie going a long way.
Sometimes it seems so easy to lie.
It just one lie, what could the impact have?
The priests tried to trick the people, some believed and soe did not.
What does it take to believe a lie?
What makes a good lie?
Have you ever been stuck in a lie?
Is it time to come clean?
What do you think?
Have a great day.
