When did we lose hope in humanity?
I remember hearing someone talk once about how they won't help people at the side of the road.
Their reasoning?
They don't know what that person pulled over could do.
Instead they would just call 911 or the police and tell them where they were at.
When did we lose hope in humanity or helping someone?
Years ago, I was stuck with another sports writer in the middle of nowhere in a blizzard.
The first vehicle stopped and asked if we needed help, at the time we had a cell and didn't think so.
A minute after that our phone died.
There was no hope at the time.
We had about four cars drive by that didn't stop to help us.
Things looked bleak.
Finally another car came through the blizzard and stopped.
This young lady asked if we needed help, we told her what happened and she said she lived down the road and we could call for a tow truck then.
This lady was young and had a baby seat in the background.
It ends up she was 16, had a newborn baby and was coming off of work.
She could have just driven by instead of picking up two guys that she never met before.
It could have been a dangerous situation she walked into.
We went and stayed at her parents house until the tow truck came at about 3 a.m.
I never did see those people again or get a chance to thank other than a simple thank you.
We are called to help other people, no matter what the situation.
This was something the religious leaders couldn't understand about Jesus.
They were so used to following rules and regulations that they missed the purpose.
Jesus was there to help no matter what the day, even on the Sabbath.
This was a struggle for the leaders.
A man with a hurt hand came to Jesus and they wondered if he would heal him.
Jesus had this man stand up and ask this question in Mark 3:4…
"Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent."
It was a good or bad decision.
You can either help or do nothing.
The Pharisees didn't do anything and he looked at them with anger then healed the man.
Rather than changing their view and improving, they started to plot to kill Jesus.
They didn't get it.
Often we don't get it.
When we see someone stopped at the side of the road we think about the fact we are heading home from work and don't think about the people stuck.
We need to change.
Jesus was all about changing the things we don't do and reach out.
I am glad that young single parent helped us out.
I couldn't imagine what would have happen if she didn't help us out.
When we lose hope in humanity, what's the point of living?
When did we start not helping people?
What can we do to change?
Have a great day.
