Traditions change

Some traditions are great to have and others are okay to change.

Christmas is a time when we share gifts.

God shared his son as a gift and we share gifts with one another.

We have routines or traditions that we feel like we have always done.

One of the traditions we have always done is Christmas Eve at Grandma and Grandpa Gustons.

I love getting together and spending time cramped with 60 members of the family all getting together in a house.

Yet with being a minister, I am going to have to be working a service on Christmas Eve. So lately I haven't been able to make it for this.

But this year I didn't have any responsibilities for the Christmas Eve service which allowed me to leave early to help out with my sick wife/kids (They are getting better know, we are still waiting on the green snot from Connors nose and seeing if that gets any better or whether we need to go to the doctors. He seems better for now).

Traditions change, and I won't always be able to be there to spend time with the family, but I cherish the times I am.

Sometimes we can't do what we have always done in the past.

Is that a bad thing?

When in town we would always try to go to Christmas Eve service at South, but with 3 young kids and a 11 p.m. service, it's not conducive for us to attend.

We love the Christmas Eve Service, but can't attend.

Things change, traditions change some things that we have done for years can change.

Jesus dealt with some change in Mark 2.

He was celebrating a wedding during a fasting time.

Verse 18…

Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, "How is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?"

Jesus told the people they were celebrating with the bridegroom.

It was a time of celebration and that later they would fast.

There was a change in tradition.

Some changes are good to happen.

With Jesus, it was never all about tradition, changes were made.

He brought about a change that most people were amazed with.

What's a tradition you keep that you love?

What's a tradition that can change?

Christmas is about enjoying gifts, family friends and most importantly Jesus being born.

Merry Christmas.
