Always requesting never questing

It always feels like we want something.

Why is this?

How do I get stuck in this trap?

We say it's not because of advertising and marketing, but it plays a bigger role then we think.

We always have so many requests.

Whether it's getting a new flat screen TV or a good grade on a test, we always want something and think it would be nice to have it given to us.

But is what we want going to make us better people?

Is it to the point we always want what we don't really need?

When push comes to shove, we often have to look at the fact that we want what we don't really need.

Our wants can really be meaningless when we can see what happens at a place like Haiti and having a flat screen TV doesn't look as important.

Sometimes we sabotage ourselves and we don't even know it.

In Mark 6, a man named Herod liked John the Baptist.

He thought John was interesting and freaked him out, but at the same time looked at him with a lot of respect and liked to listen to what he said.

His wife did not.

John opposed his marriage because his new wife was his brother's wife.

The wife hated John for this.

John was locked up when Herod had a party for the high officials and military commanders.

When they came together, he had the daughter of his wife dance for them.

I will leave you to figure out the dance, but at the end the daughter pleased the men very much.

Very much so that he offered her up to half the kingdom (Not literally).

She went out and asked the mom what she should request.

This was her request in Mark 6:25…

"At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: "I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter."

The king didn't know what to do.

In the end he went through with her request.

How much would you have to hate someone to have them killed?

John the Baptist was a righteous and humble man.

He spoke the truth and died because of what one person wanted.

What makes something a want to us?

Is it really something we need?

It takes work to get what we need.

We might request something, but do we deserve what we request?

Sometimes it takes a good quest to get what we really need.

What do you think?

Have a great day.
