Whatever you want

Imagine a world where you get whatever you want.

Anything that you wanted, that would please you, you would get.

If you could have something right now what would it be?

My first want would be super bowl tickets (Because next year the Lions are going to win it and my friend Bobby told me if the Lions go to the Super Bowl he would buy the tickets ;-)

There are things we want.

I want…

  • To lose some wieght.
  • Be in better shape.
  • Play hockey at least three days a week.
  • Pay off debt.
  • Watch the Lions, Tigers and Michigan State play in the top games.

These are just a couple of things that I want.

There are things that I want spiritually but that is a different list for a different time.

We all have wants, from the time we are young to wherever we are at now.

How do we know what we want is truly the best thing for us?

This is a struggle.

It's easy to get in the habit I deserve this or this should or needs to be given to me for what I put up with.

Sometimes what we want doesn't make sense.

The people that followed Jesus closely (The disciples) were no different.

Two of them (James and John) went to Jesus and asked this at the end of Mark 10:35 and 37…

"Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask….Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory."

After the first question rather then responding Jesus (very smart) asked what it was they wanted then heard this question.

He mentions to them they have no idea what they are asking.

Pretty bold move for two of the 12 disciples.

They basically went behind the others backs and tried to convince Jesus to put them on his left and right side.

Jesus was smart though.

He later goes on and explains you have no idea what this means.

Jesus tells them whoever wants to be great among them has to be a servant first.

Their want requires them to be a servant the greatest must become the lowest.

Jesus knows that nothing is ever handed out in this world.

Even our greatest wants might not be great for us.

Everyone wants more money, but type in lotto winners goes bankrupt in google and you will see a whole bunch of people that had nothing, got it all and lost it all.

So many lotto winners have the money but no way to spend it. So they put in bad investments buy the house, cars and other things that would make them happy and soon they find out they didn't invest their money right and now they are right back or worse off then they were.

We want, we want, we want.

We all have different wants and desires.

Jesus told the two, if you want to be great you have to become a servant.

If we want something we have to work for it.

What is something you want, but it's going to take work to get it?

What do you need to do today, this week, this month, this year?

Figure out this plan and see if it's really necessary.

Have a great day.
