Voice

The words came out but no one could understand them.

I was in a lodge at Rock Lake Christian Camp and supposed to lead a breakout group.

We had another group in the room and it was pretty loud.

I had my questions in front of me and started talking.

Barely anything came out.

It sounded like I just hit puberty and I was quiet anyways.

I could barely talk.

Why was this?

I went to a Relient K concert on Wednesday and in between screaming and yelling at the concert, my voice was shot.

So it's Friday and I am trying to do the best job at talking to this group with nothing happening.

It was not cool.

It stinks to lose our voice.

Ever experience this?

What was it like?

Zechariah experiences this in the book of Luke.

After finding out he was going to have a child in his old age, he questioned the angel Gabriel and was not allowed to speak until his son was born.

After his son was born they were struggling to find a name.

People wanted to name him after his father.

Elizabeth (The babies mom) wanted to name him John.

They went to his father and tried to get him to sign what the name should be.

Luke 1:63-64…

"He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, "His name is John." Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak, praising God."

10 months roughly John couldn't talk.

Imagine that.

What would it be like?

How would you communicate in a time like that?

It must have been tough for him.

Yet he doubted an angel and suffered as a result.

Yet soon as he acknowledge his son, his voice is back.

He praised God.

He wasn't mad at God for keeping his voice from him, but was glad and happy for getting his voice back.

The first thing he did was praise God.

After a long, long time he had a son.

We can make our list against God, everything that we are not happy with.

How we feel like he has done us wrong.

Through all the things Zechariah thought about those 10 months, he praised God when he God his voice back.

He was thankful for his life and what was given to him.

Would you be thankful after that time?

We all have things we think we could be mad at God about.

Through this, there is still a ton we can praise God for.

What are you thankful for?

What good things can you focus on rather than the negative?

Have a great day.
