It's a joke, please take lightly.
There are multiple jokes or questions about being a lone in the woods.
While some are for a quick laugh, some can be really tough…
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
When we are alone things can change.
We feel different when we are away from people.
Isolation can be tricky.
It's hard to be isolated.
One of my classes we tried something I have never tried to do before…
Go two hours without talking.
This means not saying words out loud or to someone else.
Think about this two hours without talking.
How easy would that be to you?
I don't do well with isolation.
Honestly I don't like being alone most of the time.
Yet this was something that was normal in biblical times.
Mary just gave birth to Jesus and for seven days she was ceremonially unclean.
Then it says something that left me confused in Luke 2:22…
"When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord."
At first I didn't understand what this time of purification was.
I had to read Leviticus 12:1-8 to find an interesting law.
There was a time when after giving childbirth you were to wait 33 days to purify yourself from bleeding if you gave birth to a boy and 66 days if you gave birth to a girl.
Interesting rule.
During this time they were not allowed to go near the sanctuary or anything sacred.
Man, they were pretty alone.
How did they do it?
It couldn't have been a good time for the new faithful parents.
This is what they had to do.
There was a time of isolation.
Being lonely like that must not be fun.
My heart and mind have been having a hard time lately as I see someone else going through a period of separation.
Thinking how rough that could be.
Mary and Joseph went through a time like this.
I think we all do in different ways.
But through that time good can still come in the end.
It's hard to think about, but it's true.
Sometimes I have trouble remembering that and feel beat down.
It's through the rough times we really have to rely on God.
Have a great day.
