There comes a point when thing go beyond our own strength.
No matter how hard we try we can only go so far.
A couple of years ago I had surgeries on my knees.
I was told they are stronger then they have ever been.
About two years ago, my brother Zach asked me to do a marathon with him.
I said if my doctor allowed it, I would do it.
I went to my doctor, she knew the reason for my visit and the first thing she said coming into the room, "Dude, there is no way you are running a marathon."
I thought this was funny.
She explained that my knees are great but it's like 180 pounds hitting the concrete with my knees every step.
She was going to tell me that it would be fine to do 5K's but then she recommended against it.
I was a little down as my knees were feeling great.
She lifted me up by saying I could play ice hockey till my knees fell off.
Some things go beyond our own strength, this can be physically, mentally, socially or spiritually.
We have things that go beyond our own strength.
Jesus did something interesting before choosing his apostles.
He prayed.
While this might sound weird hearing the son of God praying.
Even Jesus who knew our own hearts valued prayer enough to stop what he was doing and pray to God.
Luke 6:12…
"One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God."
In the morning, Jesus came down brought his large group of disciples and chose 12 of them.
He spent the night in prayer.
Prayer is a humbling experience because it's not about us.
Prayer is admitting we are not perfect and things go beyond our own abilities.
We have things we still need to work on and improve.
It can't be done on our own.
There is a power that is greater than our own ability, prayer is that power.
If something is truly bothering you, why keep it between just you?
God is always there to listen, no matter how angry or wrong you feel.
God is always there for us.
There is a greater power.
Are you ready to tap into it?
It's available to everyone.
Have a great day.
